He attended the University of Georgia for his undergraduate career and then completed his Doctor of Medicine in Dentistry (DMD) at the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston. While there, he received a scholarship for excellence in oral and maxillofacial surgery. Dr. Shessel is certified by the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, thus asserting his exemplary knowledge of the OMS specialty. He completed a rigorous written exam, as well as four separate oral examinations to attain this status. As a board-certified oral surgeon, Dr. Shessel has demonstrated his comprehensive knowledge of the specialty, his ability to act in critical surgical situations, as well as his skill in completing complex procedures.
